Singapore Biennale 2011 (Part 2)

The first part is found in the previous post.

I decided to head to National Museum of Singapore which is nearby. After all, the entrance was free for that day, so why not make use of it. I was pretty tired and not a lot of things interest me as much as the exhibitions from Singapore Art Museum.

Here are the some of the exhibits from National Museum:

Artists: Shao Yinong and Muchen
Title: ‘Spring and Autumn’ series
This is really intricate and detailed.  These pieces of work is done with silk and silk thread. The husband and wife team did the embroidery of obsolete bank notes which was found in different countries and periods of time.  Very beautiful and you can actually know the history by looking at banknotes.

Artist: Navin Rawanchaikul
Title: Makadad
Too bad my camera can’t take panaromic shots. This was an interesting landscape picture, also describing the history of the Indian community in Chiang Mai. This was a refreshing change from all the modern art where the arts pieces are so abstract.

Artist: Teppei Kanuji
Title: White Discharge
White discharge on Japanese dolls. I think what the artist tries to convey is how we’re subtlety influenced by other cultures.

Singapore Biennale 2011

Artist: Tiffany Chung
Title: I can’t remember the order of art pieces and installation, but the titles are ‘Flora and Fauna outgrowing the future’, ‘one great giant great food’,’up and down the river: migration of the fish’
I really like her maps. I like the colours used and how she add the details to them.

Artist: Gigi Scaria
Title: Unknown
Look! An animation of pop up books. So awesome, surreal and colourful. From what I read, these pieces are supposed to explore the impact of the recent growth boom in the cities of his home country.

The non animated version.

This ends my observations in National Museum.

The next day, I join a few friends for ramen and I saw this in the ramen restaurant in Orchard:

I thought it was cute and shot a picture of it. The ramen was nice and warm, perfect for rainy days.

That concludes my trip in Singapore and I’m glad that I finally finish this post. Yay.
